Fig Relish

Stokes Fig Relish 2kg is a wonderfully rich, fruity relish that brings together the natural sweetness of figs with the gentle sharpness of cider vinegar and the deep, caramel-like notes of cane molasses. Made with an impressive 60% marinated figs, this premium fig relish has a thick, luscious texture with plenty of fruit throughout, making it a delicious accompaniment to cheese, roasted meats and savoury dishes.

Figs and cheese are a classic pairing, and this relish is particularly good alongside mature Cheddar, creamy Brie, tangy blue cheese or a generous wedge of Stilton. It's equally delicious spooned into sandwiches, served with pâté or added to a cheeseboard with crackers and cured meats. The subtle warmth of mixed spice gives it a lovely depth that makes it especially appealing during autumn and Christmas entertaining.

At i4C, we're big fans of Stokes sauces, and their Fig Relish is one we'd happily put on the table whenever there's a cheeseboard involved. We particularly love it with smoked cheese melted onto sourdough toast. The generous 2kg catering tub is also ideal for restaurants, cafés and busy kitchens looking for a reliable, flavour-packed accompaniment.

  • Baked Brie with Fig Relish and Walnuts: Bake a whole Brie until soft and melting, then spoon over Stokes Fig Relish and scatter with toasted walnuts. Serve with warm sourdough or artisan crackers for an easy sharing starter.
  • Fig and Stilton Puff Pastry Tartlets: Fill mini puff pastry cases with crumbled Stilton and a spoonful of fig relish, then bake until golden. Finish with fresh thyme for a delicious canapé at Christmas parties or drinks receptions.
  • Sticky Fig and Balsamic Glazed Pork: Mix fig relish with balsamic vinegar and a little Dijon mustard, then brush over roasted pork tenderloin during the final stages of cooking for a beautifully caramelised glaze.
  • Rich Fig and Red Wine Gravy: Stir a generous spoonful of fig relish into a red wine jus or homemade gravy, allowing the fruit to soften and the flavours to combine. Serve alongside roast beef, venison or slow-cooked lamb.

Why do figs pair so well with strong cheeses?

Figs have a natural honey-like sweetness that provides a lovely contrast to the saltiness and intensity of mature and blue cheeses. Their fruity character also complements the earthy flavours found in cheeses such as Stilton, Gorgonzola and aged Cheddar, creating a balanced combination that's particularly popular on cheeseboards.

What's the difference between fig relish and fig jam?

Although both celebrate the sweetness of figs, fig relish has a more savoury character thanks to the addition of vinegar and spices. Fig jam is generally sweeter and intended for spreading on toast or using in desserts, whereas fig relish offers a sweet-and-tangy balance that works particularly well with cheese, charcuterie and roasted meats.

How much fig relish should I serve per person on a cheeseboard?

Around 20–30g of fig relish per person is a useful starting point when serving a cheeseboard with several accompaniments. For larger grazing boards or buffet spreads, you may want to allow a little extra, particularly when serving strongly flavoured cheeses. A 2kg tub provides approximately 65–100 portions at this serving size.
