How long do frozen bao buns take to steam?
Kater Bake Bao Hirata Buns can be steamed from frozen for 8 minutes in a steam oven at full power (100%) or for 10 minutes over boiling water using a wire rack or bamboo steamer. Once defrosted, they can be steamed for 5 minutes.
Can bao buns be cooked in the microwave?
Yes. Place two frozen buns on a non-metallic plate and microwave at full power for 20 seconds in a 1900W microwave. Cooking times may need adjusting when using equipment with a different wattage.
How many bao buns should you serve per person?
This depends on the menu and filling size. For small plates or sharing menus, one or two filled bao can form part of a larger selection, while a more substantial serving may use two or three buns with accompanying sides. Their consistent 50g size makes portions straightforward to plan.
