Korean Hot Sauce

Chimac Korean Hot Sauce 390g brings the deep, savoury character of gochujang together with tangy vinegar, garlic and soy sauce for a Korean-inspired chilli sauce with plenty of flavour without overwhelming heat. Made in Dublin and containing 53.6% gochujang, it has a rich fermented character, gentle sweetness and warming chilli kick that makes it incredibly easy to use.

Squeeze it over Korean fried chicken, burgers and loaded fries, stir it through noodles or rice, or use it to add instant depth to marinades and dipping sauces. The balance of gochujang and vinegar means it delivers more than straightforward chilli heat, with acidity cutting through richer foods while the fermented flavours add plenty of savoury depth.

At i4C, this is the kind of hot sauce we find ourselves putting on far more than originally intended. Try a generous dollop over crispy fried eggs and rice with spring onions and sesame seeds – simple, quick and seriously good.

What gives Korean hot sauce its distinctive flavour?

Gochujang provides a combination of chilli, sweetness and fermented savoury flavour rather than simply adding heat. Chimac combines this with vinegar, soy sauce and garlic, creating a sauce with acidity and umami alongside its chilli character.

Why is gochujang commonly paired with vinegar?

Gochujang is thick, concentrated and deeply savoury. Vinegar introduces acidity that cuts through this richness, loosens the texture and creates the brighter, tangier character associated with many pourable Korean-inspired hot sauces.

Can Korean hot sauce be mixed with mayonnaise?

Yes. Mixing a gochujang-based hot sauce with mayonnaise creates a quick creamy chilli sauce with a gentler heat and rich texture. It works particularly well in burgers, wraps and sandwiches or as a dip for chips, fried chicken and vegetable fritters.
