Mulled Cider Spices
Suma Mulled Cider Spices 25g make it wonderfully simple to turn cider or apple juice into a warming, aromatic drink for autumn evenings, Bonfire Night and Christmas gatherings. The blend combines cinnamon, lemon peel, allspice berries and cloves for the familiar combination of citrus and warming spice associated with traditional mulled cider.
Inside the pack are six individually portioned 4g spice pouches, taking the measuring and guesswork out of mulling. Simply gently heat 750ml of cider, add one pouch and simmer for 10–15 minutes to allow the spices to infuse. Strain before serving if preferred, then pour into mugs and garnish with orange slices, apple, cinnamon sticks or fresh cranberries.
At i4C, this is exactly the sort of ingredient we like having ready when the colder evenings arrive. The individual pouches mean you can make a batch of proper mulled cider without ending up with half-open packets of spices everywhere, and they work just as nicely with apple juice when you want an alcohol-free version.

What type of cider is best for making mulled cider?
A good-quality traditional apple cider works particularly well. Very sweet cider can become sweeter as it warms, so a medium or dry cider gives you more control over the finished balance and allows the fruit and spices to come through.
Why shouldn't you boil cider when making mulled cider?
Gentle heating allows the spices to infuse without aggressively reducing the drink. When using alcoholic cider, boiling also causes alcohol to evaporate more rapidly, so keeping it at a gentle simmer is preferable.
What fruit can you add to mulled cider?
Apples and oranges are classic choices, while pears and cranberries work particularly well for a festive variation. Add sliced fruit while the cider gently heats so its flavour has time to infuse into the drink.
