Dried Lemon Verbena

Eco-Pebble Lemon Verbena 25g is a fragrant dried herb prized for its bright, distinctly lemony aroma and clean citrus flavour. More delicate than fresh lemon and without its sharp acidity, lemon verbena is a lovely way to introduce citrus notes to herbal teas, desserts, syrups and infusions.

The dried leaves can be steeped in hot water for a refreshing lemon verbena tea or infused into cream, milk and sugar syrup to flavour panna cotta, ice cream, custards and cakes. Its aromatic character works particularly well with berries, peaches, apricots, honey, vanilla and white chocolate, while a simple lemon verbena syrup can bring something different to cocktails and alcohol-free drinks.

At i4C, we particularly like lemon verbena when you want a gentle citrus flavour rather than the acidity of lemon juice. Infusing a handful of leaves into cream or syrup is an incredibly simple way to experiment with this wonderfully fragrant herb.

What does lemon verbena taste like?

Lemon verbena has a clean, aromatic citrus character reminiscent of fresh lemon, but without the same acidity or sourness. Its flavour is also slightly herbal, making it particularly useful when you want fragrance as well as citrus flavour.

How long should dried lemon verbena steep for tea?

Dried lemon verbena can generally be steeped in freshly boiled water for around five to seven minutes. A longer infusion will produce a more pronounced herbal and citrus flavour, so the strength can easily be adjusted to taste.

What is the difference between lemon verbena and lemongrass?

Although both ingredients have a citrus character, they are different plants with distinct flavour profiles. Lemon verbena is particularly fragrant and delicate, while lemongrass has a stronger, grassier citrus flavour commonly associated with South-East Asian cooking.
