Sweet Smoked Paprika

La Chinata Sweet Smoked Paprika Powder 750g is a classic Spanish seasoning with a deep smoky aroma, rich red colour and mellow pepper flavour without the pronounced heat of hot paprika. Also known as sweet pimentón, it is an easy way to bring warm, savoury depth to paella, patatas bravas, stews, roasted vegetables, marinades and barbecue dishes.

Its smoky character works particularly well with tomatoes, potatoes, chickpeas, beans, eggs, chicken and pork. Try stirring it through a tomato sauce, mixing it into a dry rub or simply combining it with olive oil, garlic and sea salt before roasting vegetables.

Recipe Inspiration:

  • Make smoky roasted chickpeas by tossing them with olive oil, La Chinata Sweet Smoked Paprika and sea salt before roasting until crisp.
  • Add sweet smoked paprika to a chicken and chorizo paella with saffron, peppers and tomatoes for an extra layer of smoky flavour.
  • Mix the paprika with garlic, oregano, olive oil and lemon juice to make a simple marinade for chicken, pork or roasted vegetables.
  • Make paprika roast potatoes by coating parboiled potatoes with olive oil, sweet smoked paprika and sea salt before roasting until deeply golden and crisp.

What is the difference between sweet and hot smoked paprika?

Sweet smoked paprika provides the characteristic smoky, peppery flavour of pimentón without significant chilli heat. Hot smoked paprika combines that smokiness with a stronger chilli kick, so the sweet variety is particularly useful when you want depth without making a dish spicy.

Why does smoked paprika taste smoky?

The distinctive flavour comes from the way the peppers are traditionally dried using smoke before being ground into a fine powder. This process gives smoked paprika a noticeably deeper flavour than paprika made from peppers dried without smoke.

Can sweet smoked paprika be used as a finishing seasoning?

Yes. Although commonly incorporated during cooking, a light dusting can also be used to finish dishes. Try it over hummus, fried eggs, potato salads, grilled corn or creamy dips where its red colour and smoky aroma can become part of the presentation.
